Fictive Force
In this paper, I provide a variation on ideas by Walton and Currie, elaborating the view that fictive utterances are characterized by a specific form of illocutionary force, in the wider directive kind, something like a proposal to imagine. I make some points on the relation between the proposal and current debates betweenintentionalist and conventionalist views, and I discuss interesting recent objections to such a view by Stacie Friend.
